6 Weeks...Already

Landon turned 6 weeks this week. He is quite the growing boy. He weighs 10 lbs 13 oz and is 22.75 inches long. In the last couple weeks Landon's met more family. His Great Aunt Margaret made a detour on her way to Oakland to see him. Shani's Grandma Alice, Aunt Debora, and cousins Cole, Wes, Amber, and daughter Ruby from the Bay area came to meet him too. So many new people!

Shani started back to work for a few hours a few days each week. It's been a transition but she realized how much she missed it. The best part is Landon gets to be at work with her. This will become his second home over the next couple years. So far he's been a trooper!This is only possible because Grandma works at office and she likes spending so much time with him. Thank you Grandma!

We think Landon has started to smile some. Although it usually occurs around the time of gas or poo, it's still cute! His hair is out of control. It might be longer than John's! We've tried to style it while it was drying after a bath. We are having so much fun with this guy...

One Month Old

One month old

Landon is already 1 month old! We can't believe how quickly this time has gone. It doesn't feel like long ago that Shani was pregnant. Now we've had this (not so) little guy around for a month and we can't imagine how it was before he arrived. Wait, there is something we vaguely remember...getting solid sleep! That's okay, he's worth the lack of sleep, we just can't wait for the time we are getting more of it again. Landon is a growing boy. He now weighs 9 lbs 7 oz and is roughly (we measured ourselves) 21.5 in long. He is now fitting into his sleepers a little better now that he's getting a little longer. He's quite precious and we love him so much!

This past week has been a big one. Landon got to meet his Great Grandma and Grandpa Mac. They were sweet enough to make the long trek from Winnemucca, NV through the snow to come see this special guy. For the most part Landon cooperated, but he had quite the day and wasn't the happiest camper for them. It was great having them meet him and having 4 generations (Durbin , David Minor, John Durbin, and Landon Soich-David) of Mac boys together. Landon also got to meet his Great Grandpa Kelley this week as well. He's very fortunate to have so much family around.

Momma D and Poppa G (Shani's parents) were Landon's first baby sitters. We had a good friend's birthday party to go to and we decided to take the time to be with each other alone. Turns out we hardly hung out since we had so many good friends to catch up with, but we definitely enjoyed ourselves. We were really strong and didn't call once to check-in :) Thankfully we have people we trust that care so much for him and we don't have to worry when we leave him. Plus this kid doesn't care where the milk comes from (he'd probably drink from a straw if we tried) so taking a bottle was no prob. We are hoping to do a date night every week (guessing that it will be more like every other week) to help keep our marriage a priority in raising our son.

John started back to work full-time this week. Shani is really going to miss having him around and the early bed times she get's when John wasn't working as much. We guess at some point we have to get back to reality. This will especially hit when Shani goes back to work as well. Thankfully Landon will be going to work with her, but the transition of working and having a baby is a big one for the both of us.

1 pound 10 ounces in 2 weeks

Yep, that's our son! He gained 1 pound 10 ounces in 2 weeks. We visited our midwives at 21 days to have Landon's weight checked and to get some breastfeeding help. We were both blown away when the scale read 8 lbs 6 oz. We knew he had gained weight (look at those cheeks) but we figured he'd be in the 7 lb range not the 8's. We don't mind. He's an eater just like his parents. Both of us were born "smaller" but put on the pounds quickly and that's exactly what Landon is doing. We are so proud! I guess we don't need help with breastfeeding then?? Actually we did and the help from the midwives has made a huge difference. Obviously Landon was getting plenty to eat, but Shani was having some pain that she thought should be gone by now and she was correct. We are on our way to things getting better.

John's dad came into town this week and met his grandson for the first time. It was really special to have him around. John really enjoyed introducing his son to his Dad. We've been able to spend a lot of time together with the Mac's as a whole family which has been great. Grandma Mac also had her birthday while they were here so we celebrated that as well. Cousin Morgan finally got the courage to hold Landon for the first time (with the help of Auntie Kim). She had been a little frightened of hurting him after being told how fragile babies are. She did a great job!

Week 2

Landon is now 2 weeks old! We love seeing the little changes he's going through. He's started to have longer periods of time with his eyes open and will even track a little. He has the cutest looks when he is falling asleep that always make us laugh. John has even made him smile (who cares that it was a reflex). He's starting to be a chunky monkey! We don't know how much he weighs currently, but it has to be in the 7 lbs. He's started to get a rounder face, rolls in his neck, and a plump belly. He still has skinny little arms and legs but we guess they will start getting some rolls soon. This chunkiness is probably due to the fact that he's feeding non-stop... literally. We are learning to deal with the new sleep schedule (or lack of) and the tiredness. It's been really rough on John since he is back to work. Shani hopes things will get better because she has no idea how she'll be ready to go back with Landon's feeding schedule being so sporadic and not sleeping much at night. We also have to remember the little guy is only 16 days old, what do we expect? It's easy to forget he is so young because we feel like we've had him forever and really can't imagine our life without him. Here are some pictures from this past week.

1 week old

Landon is 1 week old! Part of us can't believe he's already here (we still have a couple more days before our "due date"), part can't believe he's already one week old, and part can't remember our life before he was here. We honestly could not imagine beforehand how much we would be in love with this little guy. Becoming parents is just so... unimaginable?!

This week has been a pretty great week. John took off work for the entire week. He probably has slept the least out of all of us. John enjoys "watching movies" and "daddy time" with Landon in the evenings. Shani usually nurses then goes to bed around 9-10pm, John then wakes her up to nurse again about 3 hours later, both the boys then come to bed, Landon will nurse again a few hours later, then Shani gets her time with Landon in the morning. It's been a really smooth routine for us. The only hard part is it will be changing when John heads back to work at Napa on Thursday. Having the time to sleep and recover has made a huge difference for Shani this week. John is an amazing husband and father! Along the sleep lines, Landon is a sleeper! He will sleep for 2-3 hours then nurse, then go back to sleep, then nurse, etc. The only time he really cries is when he's hungry, when he's getting a bath, or if he's cold when getting his diaper changed. Otherwise he's asleep. He has been looking around more recently, taking in the world for a few minutes before falling asleep. It's been really special the last two days as we have watched him begin to explore the world. He looks like a completely different baby with those eyes open.

As for who he looks like, you'll have to let us know. Compared to certain baby pictures he looks like he could be either one of us. We get more often that he looks like John. Shani loves it, but still has a hard time seeing John in Landon with that dark hair of his. Maybe he's a perfect blend?! We'll put up our baby pictures soon and you can see what you think.

Landon had his 1 week check-up with the midwives. He now weighs 6lbs 12oz (2oz heavier than his birth weight). Shani swore that he weighed 7.5lbs! The midwives were happy though because they hope the baby gets to birth weight by 1 week. He's already ahead of the game so we are thinking he'll be a big boy! He still has his Grandpa Gary's chicken legs though!

We've been having a great time with family this week. We had family dinner at Shani's parent's house on Saturday. Uncle Chris flew in from OC for the weekend to see his new nephew. This was our first "long" car ride with Landon (10 minutes) to go to Grandma and Grandpa's house. We then had John's family over Sunday evening. Landon spent time with his cousin Morgan who's still a little unsure how small and fragile he is (little does she know she'll be helping babysit soon). It was so much fun to spend this time with those we love and the new addition to our family. I'm sure we'll have many more of these in the future!
